Dr. Venu Jhanwar is senior consultant of Psychiatry and Director of the Deva Institute of Health Care and Research (DIHR), a multi-specialty neuropsychiatric clinic, in the ancient city of Varanasi, India. Dr. Jhanwar also gives voluntary service to Ram Krishna Mission Home, Varanasi. He is currently leading projects on learning disorders and ERP, Cognition in First Episode Psychosis, Empathy, Cognition and Virtual Reality therapy, and conducts a regular workshop on reducing & identifying Caregiver’s burden.

Dr. Jhanwar assisted in the establishment of mental health services and clinics at Sundarban delta, W.B. in collaboration with the Swiss Tropical Institute, Switzerland. He has also been involved in various research projects for many years, including more than 50 clinical trials in various phases in numerous psychiatric indications. Dr. Jhanwar completed undergraduate study in the medical field from the prestigious SMS Medical College, Jaipur, Rajasthan, in 1993, with post-graduate training at the Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research in Kolkata, West Bengal. He completed his Psychiatric residency at the Central lnstitute of Psychiatry, Ranchi & Masina Hospital, Mumbai in 1995, and post-graduation in Psychiatry from the lnstitute of Psychiatry, SSKM Hospital, University College of Medicine, Kolkata, in 1999, with an MD in Psychiatry. Dr. Jhanwar also participated in an observorship at St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri, United States, in 2005.

He is a member and officer of many professional medical associations in India, including the Society for Bipolar Disorder—India, Indian Association of Biological Psychiatry, Indian Association of Private Psychiatry, Deva Foundation—mission for mankind, the lndian Psychiatric Society, and the lndian Association of Geriatric Mental Health, to name a few. His personal interests include theater, writing and photography. Dr. Jhanwar served on the IPA Board of Directors from 2012-2016.
