Oliver Soriano

Director (2021-2023)

Oliver Soriano currently works as the Associate Director of Nursing of the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. He has a dedicated professional nursing career for the past 29 years and has been working in the NHS – United Kingdom for the past 23 years. Oliver finished his BSc degree in Nursing at the United Doctors Medical Centre – College of Nursing (Philippines) in 1992, and has volunteered as Safety Instructor at the Philippine National Red Cross- NHQ and worked as clinical instructor in Centro Escolar University and Far Eastern University prior to moving to the UK.

He is a dual registered nurse (RGN/RMN) in the UK, after completing his mental health nursing degree at Kings College London in 2001. Oliver had the opportunity to work across different mental health clinical setting across the NHS – from inpatient wards to community settings, to A&E liaison service to crisis home treatment teams. He has also worked as a matron and Head of nursing to services delivering care to older adults, eating disorder, perinatal, and neuropsychiatry patient group. Oliver has a special interest in mental health care for older adults and has been involved in leading and co-leading different Quality Improvement projects that has been shared and presented in Dementia Congress UK. He is a Mental Health Expert Representative for the Royal College of Nursing.

As a member of the national BME Male Nurses Network as well as a board member of the Kings Global Health Partnership (KGHP), Oliver has had the opportunity to visit Somaliland (2015) and Zambia (2020) scoping the need for mental health provision within their healthcare system.

He is currently the interim Chairperson/President of the Philippine Nurses Association UK and an advisory board member for the charity organisation Filipino Unite. These organisations share a vision and mission to provide help and support to the Philippine nursing workforce and the wider Filipino community.
