Dawne has committed her thirty four year nursing career to working with older people through a variety of clinical, academic and entrepreneurial roles. Her experience has spanned acute hospital care, community nursing, integrated services and academic roles. She was been a Nurse Consultant for 17 years working in the community in integrated services and more recently in acute care.
In addition to traditional leadership roles Dawne also undertook a variety of early advanced practice and lecturer practitioner posts working with academic institutions including the University of Hull and Bournemouth University. This included working in clinical practice, teaching students and undertaking research. Whilst working as a Consultant Nurse Dawne was deputy chair of a local clinical ethics committee.
Dawne completed a PhD researching older people’s experiences of sexual intimacy. She has been the United Kingdom professional lead older people and dementia care for the Royal College of Nursing for the last four years and she maintains a clinical role and publishes widely.
