Better Mental Health for Older People

What is the Learning Portal?
The Learning Portal is IPA’s new initiative to use technology to further our mission of providing high quality education and fostering the world-wide community of those concerned with the mental health of the elderly.

The Learning Portal describes our programs and services to use the Internet, CD ROMs and DVDs, as well as other technological advances to provide convenient learning experiences. With the Learning Portal, you don’t have to go anywhere…”IPA comes to you.”

The Learning Portal consists of 3 parts:

1. Educational Products

  • Neuroimaging in Old Age Psychiatry” – This is a workshop that was originally presented at the IPA Australasia Regional Meeting in Rotorua, New Zealand, May 2005.

2. Knowledge Bank

3. Live Interactive Broadcast

IPA presented its first live interactive broadcast, “Clinical Dilemmas: Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia – BPSD” on 30 March 2006. Approximately 450 participants from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, and Romania heard from internationally known experts as well as interacted with one another at their sites plus their colleagues at the other sites. Everyone agreed that the first program was a success and they would like to participate in future broadcasts. If you missed this exciting program you may view the program flyer.

We look forward to hosting live interactive broadcasts in the future. If you are interested in bringing a Live Interactive Broadcast to your location, we will be developing an application to describe the criteria for becoming a site and to enable members to apply to participate. Selection of future sites and programs will be determined by practical issues like strong local leadership, experience in conducting scientific meetings, speaker availability, local time zones, funding, as well as technical capability and support. Look for the application to be posted this fall.
