Eastern European

The objectives are to identify leaders, improve communications, and raise awareness about the Eastern European Regional Initiative psychogeriatric issues in the region. Goals of this initiative are:
- to bring together a diverse regional group, including current and emerging area opinion leaders
- to begin the major task of sharing knowledge in the field within the regional context, and
- to initiate policy and guidelines for the region.
IPA expects the Eastern European Initiative to have a major impact on defining the key public health issues for the region and on the organization of effective clinical, research, and educational programs. The Eastern European Regional Initiative web section will help facilitate these goals.
Geriatric Psychiatry in Turkey
This educational course was organized by the National Geropsychiatric Society to examine the most common psychiatric disorders in the elderly and the diagnosis and treatment of their systems. It took place November 26-28, 2004.

Geriatric Psychiatry in Romania
The
First Old Age Psychiatry Summer Course took place in Oradea, Romania, from 29 August to 4 September, 2004. This course was organized by IPA's Eastern European Initiative and Romanian Association of Geriatric Psychiatry, for young psychiatrists from Eastern European countries. IPA and ARG presented an intensive 7-day course that introduced the essentials of geriatric psychiatry.
