Xin Yu, MD

Xin Yu, M.D. is Associate Professor of Psychiatry, Institute of Mental Health, Peking University. He became the Executive Director of the institute in 2001. He is also the vice Chairman of Chinese Association for Alzheimer’s disease. He was elected as the committeeman of Chinese Society of Psychiatry in 2003 and has served as a consultant of Aging Research Center of Peking University. Dr. Yu is also the member of Advisory Board on Mental Health for the Ministry of Health, P. R. China.

Dr. Yu graduated from Beijing Medical University in 1988 and got his M. D. from Peking University in 2000. From 1992, Dr. Yu began to work in old age psychiatric unit under the supervision of professor Shen Yucun, who is the most distinguished psychiatrist in China, a longstanding Corresponding Member of the IPA, BOD. From November 1996-March 1997, he was granted the IPA/Pfizer Fellowship and received advanced training at Academic Unit for Psychiatry of Old Age, University of Melbourne under the mentorship of Professor Edmond Chiu, Past President of IPA. From August 1998-July, 1999, as a Hubert Humphrey Fellowship awardee, Dr. Yu studied at School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University, USA in the substance abuse program and joined a 4-month clinical observation program under the supervision of Professor Peter Rabins. During this period, he assisted Professor Shen Yucun to edit the first textbook on geriatric psychiatry in China and to organize the IPA/regional congress in April 1999 and Arie course in Beijing. From 1999-2001, Dr. Yu was appointed as the Head of Geriatric Psychiatric Department, Institute of Mental Health, Peking University. From 2000-2001, he was Assistant Director, Institute of Mental Health, Peking University. From 2001-present, Dr. Yu has been working as the Executive Director, Institute of Mental Health, Peking University. He published over 30 papers in Chinese prestigious journals and edited/co-edited several textbooks on general psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry. Dr. Yu’s main research interests are in the field of late-onset psychosis and mood disorders.
