Nicola Lautenschlager, MD

Psychogeriatrics
Nicola Lautenschlager graduated in human
medicine in 1993 and received her
postgraduate degree (MD) in 1994 from the
Technical University in Munich (TUM),
Germany. In 1995 she spent one year as
postdoctoral fellow at Boston University in
the US. In 2000 she completed her
postgraduate clinical training and received
the Bavarian fellowship in Psychiatry and
Psychotherapy. In October 2000 she moved to
Perth, Australia and took up a position as
Senior Lecturer in Old Age Psychiatry at the
University of Western Australia (UWA),
School of Psychiatry and Clinical
Neurosciences. In July 2004 she was promoted
to Associate Professor and in August 2006 to
Professor. Since then she has been Deputy
Head of School in the School of Psychiatry
and Clinical Neurosciences at UWA. She is a
member of the newly founded Western
Australian Centre for Health and Ageing.
Since March 2007 Nicola is a fellow of the
Australian and New Zealand College of
Psychiatrists and since August 2007 a member
of the Faculty of Psychiatry of Old Age of
the Royal Australian and New Zealand College
of Psychiatrists. She is co-director of a
memory clinic and also conducts clinical
work as a consultant in Psychiatry.
Her main research interests are mild
cognitive impairment, early diagnosis of
dementia and Alzheimer's Disease, risk
factors for cognitive decline and health
promotion and preventative strategies in Old
Age Psychiatry.
Dr. Lautenschlager has been a member of IPA
since 2001. In November 2006, she was
appointed Deputy Editor of International
Psychogeriatrics.
