David G. Folks, MD

David G. Folks, M.D., is the present Professor and Chair of Psychiatry of the College of Medicine at University of Nebraska Medical Center since 1993. He is also Academic Chief of the Nebraska Health System and the Richard Young Center, and a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His academic and clinical career in adult psychiatry spans 23 years. He has been listed in the book, The Best Doctors in America, five times, and twice in Who’s Who Among Outstanding Americans.
Dr. Folks participates on an ongoing basis as the Principal Investigator of Research and Training Grants which evaluate the safety and efficacy of pharmaceuticals that have potential for the treatment of patients with dementia, depression, anxiety disorders and schizophrenia. His research interests are also focused upon the psychiatric outcomes of patients with cardiac disorders, the somatization of psychiatric disorders, and the psychobiological foundations of psychiatric care. He has published extensively on these topics.
Dr. Folks is active with the American Psychiatric Association as a Distinguished Fellow. He serves on the Council for Geriatric Psychiatry and previously served on the Council for Education and Task Force on Practice Guidelines. He is a specialist site reviewer for the Residency Review Committee of the American Council on Graduate Medical Education for Geriatrics. He examines for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and serves on the Examination Committee for Neurology and Recertification Examination for Psychiatry.
He currently serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Addictions, the American Journal of Psychiatry, Psychosomatics, Psychosomatic Medicine, and the International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine. He was a member of the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry from 1996-2000.
Dr. Folks is the current Editor of the IPA Bulletin since 2001, and he has been an active IPA member since 1994.
