IPA’s Tenth Congress, Bridging the Gap between Brain and Mind, the first in the new millennium, will be held in Nice, France, 9-14  September 2001.  IPA has held very successful congresses in many countries, including Egypt, Sweden, the USA, Japan, Italy, Germany, Australia, Israel, and most recently, Canada.  In each of these countries, our international membership has benefited from unique and warm hospitality,  which facilitated excellent scientific exchange and fostered collegiality.  France has a great tradition of high standards of hospitality mediated by its magnificent cuisine, and has established the essence of what is best in being a host.  Nice, with its incomparable location on the French Riviera, epitomizes the best of French hospitality.

It is in such a marvelous environment that IPA will meet in 2001 to address the very important issue of building bridges between vigorous neuroscience and its practical psychosocial application to caring for our patients and their families.  IPA’s strength rests in its multidisciplinary character, which draws together all those who serve the elderly with mental health problems.  The interaction, sharing, and interchange among many health care disciplines during the Tenth Congress will prepare us all to meet the challenges facing us at the beginning of the next century, through understanding and making the connection between rapidly advancing scientific research and its practical outcome to benefit those whose lives we are committed to improve.
