Ricardo F. Allegri, MD

Ricardo F. Allegri is presently chair of the Service of Neuropsychology, and associate professor of
neurology, at the University of CEMIC (Medical Center of Clinical Research). He is the
director of the Memory Center (Zubizarreta Hospital) of the Government of Buenos Aires City, and associate
researcher for the National Institute for Scientific and Technical Research of Argentine (CONICET). He has
been editor-in-chief of the Revista Neurologica Argentina (Argentine Neurological Journal) since 1998.
Dr. Allegri has published extensively in neurological journals and books, contributing more than 60
articles and over 20 book chapters. He has co-edited five books, including, Dementia: A Multidisciplinary
Approach, one of the most important books written in Spanish on this topic. He has received more than 20
awards in the fields of neurology and psychiatry, including this year (2002) both the Neurological
Society and the Clinical Psychiatry awards.
Dr. Allegri’s main research activities and current training grants address the early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s
disease in South American countries, and cognitive profiles and cognitive enhancing medication in
dementia. He has promoted the development of the field of old age neuropsychiatry in Latin America at
every possible level.
Dr. Allegri has been active in IPA since 1998, particularly with the Latin American Initiative. He was
involved with the Porto Alegre meeting, and is the program coordinator for epidemiological studies in
Argentina. He currently serves on the Chicago Congress Scientific Subcommittee and the IPA Website
Editorial Board.
