Philippe H. Robert, MD, PhD

Philippe H. RobertPhilippe H. Robert completed his medical studies at the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis in 1981 and received a PhD in Life Sciences in 1996 from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris. A native of Nice, he is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis and Director of the Memory Center, Nice University Hospital. Additionally, he is Project Coordinator for the creation of a neuropsychological and behavioral center within the University departments of Psychology, Neurology and Geriatrics. Professor Robert teaches psychological medicine and psychiatry and psychogeriatrics for the geriatric specialization degree, and also is Director of the Masters program in psychobiology of behavior.

His clinical research goal is to directly improve the understanding and treatment of patients who are referred to the Memory Center, and his research activities focus on cognitive neuropsychology and brain imaging, in order to study the relationships between behavior and cognition in elderly subjects and schizophrenic patients. Major scientific articles and book chapters that he has authored have memory processes in schizophrenia; behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD); the use of functional brain imaging for the diagnosis of early Alzheimer’s disease (AD); and the anatomical and neuropsychological correlates of apathy and desinhibition in elderly subjects.

In addition to IPA’s Board of Directors, to which he was elected in 2000, Professor Robert is an Executive Board member of the the French Society of Psychogeriatrics, the French Society of Biological Psychiatry, the Congrès de Psychiatrie et de Neurologie de Langue Française, and the Collegium Internationale Neuropsychopharmacologicum (CINP). He also is a member of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacologicum ECNP), the International Society of Neuropsychology, and the Society for Neuroscience.  

Professor Robert organized a course in research in psychogeriatrics for IPA’s Vancouver Congress and was the Chair of the Nice Congress in 2001.

He has served on IPA’s Board of Directors since 2000 and is the Treasurer-Elect.
